MY GOOSE IS COOKED ( in this case my pig)

This week's photohunters theme is COOKED/COOKING- Thanks to TNCHICK.

Many, many years ago my husband and I participated in a gourmet club (well, 2 actually). This gave us the opportunity to gather a bunch of our crazy friends and cook up a storm....revolving around a chosen theme.

Here, we have a pig roast that I decided to attempt. My husband absolutely refused to drain the lily pond so that I could roast the pig the proper way- by being buried and covered in banana leaves... I really thought the pond would have been perfect.

My second option was to roast the sucker (or suckling, shall I say) in the oven. He weighed about 40 pounds and was just a tad too long for the oven. Consequently I had to cut him in half to roast him. That is why he has a lovely belt made of starfruit.

All in all he was magnificent! We ended up just placing him in the center of the table and ripping the flesh right off of him with our bare hands- he was THAT good.

This next photo is a shot of most of us in our "traditional" hawaiian garb. I even dressed my son up...much to his dismay.

I apologize for the quality of the photo. The photographer seems to have had one too many mai tai's. Ah well, he was more fun that way.

Never eat more than you can lift.

I'm sure the roast pig was absolutely delicious especially after all that effort.

You all look good in your hawaiian outfits. Thanks for visiting my photo hunt.

This is the second pig roast photo I've seen today! We hosted my husband's rugby team pig roast last summer. Yup - a couple of Tongans showed up at our house at 7am with a freshly killed pig in their truck. Our kids just, about, died. But they had fun turning the stick.

And it sure tasted good.

The pig looks yummy! But it doesn't look happy. Guess maybe I can do that to my enemies? hahahahahaaaaa....

I'll bet that pig was finger-licking good! One of my best memories was of a whole goat (or was it a lamb?) wrapped and roasted in an underground pit on a farm in Chile. I was working in Santiago and on weekends would get invited to see the countryside. This was my friend's parents' farm where they grew everything imaginable and had a very idyllic life.

I love the Miss Piggy quote... she also did one about artichokes but I can't remember it off the top of my head. We have had pig roasts here and one of the guys in the church who does a lot of cooking for big dinners has a huge barbeque smoker.... that is where he did the pig! The first time was a bit disconcerting to see that head.... Babe on a plate!

Very cool! In the Philippines where my wife is from they party at the drop of a hat. They have a festival for everything. I can't keep track of them all but if I hear pigs squealing all over town I know there's going to be a festival the next day. I like the lechon, but to me, the best thing is the skin from the belly that has been cut into squares and fried over a slow flame for about ten hours. Great stuff!

Eww... I prefer my meat in tiny bits already when cooking (buying!) it... It's far less gross that way... *shivers*
Thanks for stopping by mine :)

I bet it was delicious but I couldn't have looked at this!

Soccer Mom: My husband's rugby team did this too and then had a greased pig contest!

Hi Gewels! Thanks for stopping by my blog yesterday! Imagine my surprise at someone who has actually BEEN to Annemarie Gardens! And keep your eye on my blog -- because I actually photographed one of those BENCHES yesterday - and it may come in handy for a future post! I did not know Cheryl personally -- but I do know OF her! I, too, worked in the Calvert County public school system for the past 11 years! I was a substitute teacher - and only just gave it up this past February. It sure is a small world - huh?
