Intoxicating Garden

Is it your face
that adorns the garden?

Is it your fragrance
that intoxicates this garden?

Is it your spirit
that has made this brook
a river of wine?

Hundreds have looked for you
and died searching
in this garden
where you hide behind the scenes.

But this pain is not for those
who come as lovers.

You are easy to find here.

You are in the breeze
and in this river of wine.
Rumi

What is blooming in this garden of mine? Not too much- but I managed to catch a few blooms before they wither in this heat and dryness.
And here is Kayla- your tour guide as we begin on the back steps.

We begin with a few of our deck plantings.

Palest blush and softest petals.

Blowsy, voluptuos hydrangea. Pink AND blue on the same shrub- gotta love that!

Lythrum and gooseneck veronica- wild and all over the place- like me, I guess!

Scrubby, shrubby roses

And, probably my least favorite flower-Daylilies- don't ask me why, I don't know.

And my awesome Mother's Day gift- a pineapple plant.

And, as I was doing this post, I saw these out of the corner of my eye outside of my office window.

In my garden there is a large place for sentiment. My garden of flowers is also my garden of thoughts and dreams. The thoughts grow as freely as the flowers, and the dreams are as beautiful. ~Abram L. Urban

That is an extremely lovely garden, Gewels, and I enjoyed the tour being given by Kayla. :)

These are absolutely fabulous! Especially the butterfly and bee pics! How did you catch them so still?

I love your deck and wood everywhere. Have never seen the Gooseneck flowers. How the heck did you get pink and blue hydrangea on the same plant?!
I love purple/coral combo.
Stunning!

oh gewels - you have a gem of a garden ..... (no pun intended :) you put me to shame - mine has not a single bloom - all weedy and badly in need of pruning - sort of like my life at the moment .....

beautiful poem by rumi .......bittersweet.

I tell you what- this is as nicely crafted an entery as I've evr seen....the Rumi, the Tour, the pics are like art with movement and a SENSE OF THE (excuse me) work the Artist has put into the subject...."blowsy and voluptuous" "wild all over the place"...that dog can really give a tour
I'd sure like to be a bustle in your hedgerow.

Really nice, girl.

This makes me want to take up serious gardening. I can't imagine how many hours went into making this beauty!

It's been a month or so since I've fallen asleep in your garden. If you don't mind, could you jab me in the ribs with a broomstick in an hour or so before I get too sunburned. Thanks!

I can't believe this fellow Rumi is from , what, the 13th century? His poetry seems so contemporary and yet timeless. Nice photos of beauty.

LAINIE!!! So good to hear from you..Linds and I both have missed you. At least we know how Luxor is doing!
MOI- glad you like the pics. Just lucky with the poink and blue hydrangea- maybe the plant is a bit indecisive- like their caretaker. I'll try to post some more photos of the house soon- I also love the cedar and wood everywhere- feels like a cabin in the woods in the middle of this homogenous town.
RDG- There are TONS of weeds in my back garden (like my life, too, at times)- that's why you see more closeups than broad views- lol. I am just starting to become acquainted with Rumi- lovely, no?
Akela- Kayla is a VERY thorough tour guide. Your garden inspires me, you know?
Steve- you can bustle in the hedgrow anytime- just as long as you're pulling weeds at the same time.
Barbara- No serious gardening- otherwise it's too much like work. Take up dabbling in the garden...much less stressful that way.
Dave- next time you gotta bring along the SPF 40. Or, better yet, you can have a snooze in my hammock- it's under two huge trees next to that stone planter in the first photo. Very breezy, shady and restful.
Goatman!! Nice to hear from you- yes, timeles poetry- I guess human feelings and emotion have not changes throughout history too much.
NSLW- Kayla is the older, leggier, more elegant counterpart to her short, stocky- but with such a pretty face- little sister.
RDG- Gewel's ugly stepmother (the boss) is making her sweep the cinders from the fireplace. Once I shove her in the oven I'll come out to play.

Thanks for visitng ALL!!!!!

Gorgeous!

You're worried about drying out? Here we've had nothing but rain, rain, rain all summer. Parts of Britain totally under water, but luckily I live on a hill, so don't need to worry about the flooding.

You have such a wonderful garden - puts my wasteland/ wilderness to shame. I take pride in that my garden is a wonderful habitat for wild animals and insects though... probably the worst cultivated bit of land for miles around! :-S

I've tried to take pics of bees... they just won't bow for the camera - you're a genius to get such good ones!
