"When all the dangerous cliffs are fenced off, all the trees that might fall on people are cut down, all of the insects that bite have been poisoned ... and all of the grizzlies are dead because they are occasionally dangerous, the wilderness will not be made safe. Rather, the safety will have destroyed the wilderness."
- R. Yorke Edwards (Canadian environmentalist)
These are some of the best photos of bears which I have been able to capture.
The grizzly bear was taken on my trip inside Denali National park.
The black bear (below) was finally able, after repeated attempts, to catch his dinner of salmon at Mendenhall Glacier in Junea, Alaska.

We take going to the grocery store for granted. Here I am writing about birds that must catch their prey with their feet and you are giving us the blow-by-blow story of a black bear gone fishing. Maybe they see it as sport, but my guess is they probably get tired of having to hunt to live. Anyway, the pictures are really great.
WOW fantastic shots Gewels - it's like being on safari!
*WOW*
You're Marty Stouffer, Marlin Perkins, Jane Goodall!
WOWOWOWOWOWOW!!!!!
My gal and I took the Alaska RR from Anchorage to Fairbanks thru Denali awhile back. Beautiful country. The best part was sunlight at 2 in the morning and the sun ellipsing around a point on the horizon.
Is it true that you can only get to Juneau by plane or boat (no driving)?
Great shot! thanks for the camera zoom, literally being close to your subject is really scary.Cute bears but i feel pity for the fish ;0(.
Wow! Really beautiful pics. How did you feel being so close to it?
Wow, that is AMAZING! To be that close to a bear in his natural habitat must have been awe inspiring.
These are absolutely amazing! You're so lucky to have captured them. Were you zoomimg in a lot or were you super close?!! I've never seen a grizzly.
PS you have an award honey, please call by to collect it. :)
These shots are amazing...which can only mean that the trip was the same. Wow...Love the black bear and the salmon. Ah..the life cycle, no?
Still waiting for baby...patiently and peacefully.
My mom is amazed! She would never have dared to be anywhere near a bear!
