Trompe L'oeil

Today's Photohunter's theme is FAKE as presented by TNCHICK

The following are a couple of shots of the painting in my kitchen. These are meant to look like ceramic tile- when, in fact, they have been painted.

The large motif over the sink is a copy of a pattern common on hand-painted Italian ceramic, specifically from the town of Deruta (which is famous for it's ceramic workshops). You will notice on the back left edge of the sink a small vase with the same pattern painted on it.

My aunt and uncle own one of these workshops- therefore, I have many of these pieces

That is very pretty, love the colour of your kitchen.

I thought at first it was going to be those tile stickers you can get. How does it go on though, just one big tile like plaque?

Mmmm, your kitchen looks like it has tasty things to eat in it.

I like the painting very nice.

Fake, really! I could have sworn it is tile. Whoever painted it really has a talent.

Love it! I can tell we would have so much fun cooking together. I have similar Italian ceramics sitting on my similar granite counter. But I don't have any tile that beautiful -- even if it isn't the real thing!

Very nice and I love your sink and taps too! We're just about to start on a reno/addition and I notice all that stuff now. The sink I have now is a 1960's stainless steel...ugly with taps I can hardly work!

Looks like some kind of italian Dragon-shrimp Hybrid...thats not tile? Painted to look likr tile? I don't know if i've ever seen that done as nicely.

I don't know if you can call that "fake" ... art and craftmanship are after all one and the same.

ohhhh - i love faux paintings.......yours are especially well done ----- did you do the painting or your aunt/ uncle?

irregardless, the 'tiles' are beautiful........i always wanted to do something similar in my bed room that has one of those awkward tray ceilings with ugly crown molding so thick that only about a 4" gap remains ..... always a dilemma - do we paint it the color of the room....leave it white with the ceiling.......

another infamous red dirt girl project that never quite made it off the drawing board. But it was fun to lay and bed, look up and fantasize ........

OMG, I have fallen in love with your kitchen! Painted tiles and big fancy sinks will make me do that.

what kind of paint did you use? Did it need any primer?
